Get ready for Kindergarten

Advanced Learning Centre’s early learning program focuses on developing academic and social skills in a nurturing and supportive environment. Lessons are designed to prepare our youngest students for the transition from preschool to Kindergarten and incorporate active learning that supports the development of pre-literacy, pre-numeracy and problem solving skills. In addition, our expert teachers encourage the development of your child’s social and emotional maturity, self confidence and independence at an age and developmentally appropriate level.

Some key areas of learning include:

  • Social skills such as taking turns, cooperating and sharing with other children
  • Communication skills including encouraging listening and talking (receptive and expressive language)
  • Learning behaviours such as following instructions, transitioning between activities and completing tasks
  • Fine motor skills like correct pencil grip, letter and number formation and beginning handwriting
Pre-literacy skills including recognising and using letter names and sounds of the alphabet, and recognising single sounds in beginning three letter words
  • Pre-numeracy skills such as developing understanding of problem solving and maths concepts, recognizing and writing numbers 1-10 and 11-20
  • Music, singing, role play and story telling
  • Use of appropriate educational software to familiarise your child with technology
